The Best Gluten-Free Pancake Mixes

Gluten-Free Pancake Mixes

For those busy weekends when you just don’t feel like cooking from scratch

Pancake mix was something we always kept in the house when I was growing up. Pancakes on a Sunday morning are just part of the experience but it isn’t always convenient to make them from scratch. Luckily gluten-free pancake mixes have made it to the shelves, but there is a lot more variance in the price and the way they taste than their gluten-full alternatives. We decided to put our taste buds on the line for the good of the people and tell you which packaged gluten-free pancake mix you should be buying.

Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix

Very sweet but has the best flavor. Krusteaz may be coming for King Arther’s title for the most #1 rated baking goods. Their pancake mix is clearly very sweetened, probably trying to make up for the gluten-free flavor, but ya know what? It worked. As long as you're okay with that extra sweet taste, these are great pancakes.

Bisquick

Not sweet, but very fluffy and has a good mild flavor. If you are looking for the most traditional pancake experience, there is no better choice than Bisquick. The cakes were not as sweet as the other two, but that's what toppings are for! The Bisquick mix is much better at making big fluffy pancakes than any of the other mixes we tried.

Cup4Cup

Cup4Cup had an equally good flavor to Krusteaz, also adding extra sugar to the mix. Cup4Cup came up short in a couple of places, however. The most irritating part was that the mix was not resealable, and the recipe was for the whole bag. Second, the Cup4CUp mix was significantly more expensive than all the other options. They were also noticeably thinner pancakes than most of the other competitors. If you’re in a pinch, they are a great pick and better than the rest of the brands we tried, but we’d recommend sticking to one of the first two options.

Here’s a list of all the other options we tried that didn’t make the cut (Ordered in terms of preference):

Bob’s Red Mill

Annies

King Arthur

Mina’s

Gluten-free options have come a long way, but the inconsistency across brands is really frustrating, especially when some of these options are so expensive. We’re here to help you make good decisions for your tastebuds as well as your wallet, let us know if you’d like to see any other taste tests.
