The Best Gluten-Free Chocolate Sandich Cookie

Does “Milk’s Favorite Cookie” still reign supreme?

Gluten-free alternatives to your favorite snacks keep getting better and better, but some still need a lot of work. Gluten-free chocolate sandwich cookies have had the largest difference between the best and the worst of any product that we have tested. Usually, we end up recommending getting whatever is least expensive that your local store has, but this time there really are only a couple of options worth your money.

Oreo

Our winner is probably obvious. It’s Oreo’s Gluten-Free cookies. The most popular brand has really figured out its gluten-free version. Tasters only note a slightly different texture and a very slight “off” flavor. Gluten-free Oreos come in regular and double-stuff varieties.

Trader Joe’s Joe-Joes

The only worthy alternative to Oreos that we could find. The flavor is excellent, but they go stale super-fast, so make sure to eat the whole box at once. You could also trade the cardboard box for a resealable bag. You can also find the seasonal candy cane Joe-Joes in a gluten-free version, which is excellent as well. I would drive to Trader Joe’s just for these.

Everything Else

Glutino and Simple Truth. We’d only use these if we were crushing them up to make cookies and cream ice cream. The flavor is off and the texture is gluey.
